Installation:
------------
To install the setup and utility programs, type a:\setup\install.
The default path for the installation is C:\MGA\SETUP\.
Monitor program (MGAMON.EXE):
----------------------------
The MGAMON utility program allows to you to "optimize" your
board/monitor configuration. It allows you select a monitor from
our list of supported monitors.
Your selection will be saved in a file called MGA.INF. This file
is used by all the MGA drivers to determine monitor timing information.
Monitor file (MGA.MON):
----------------------
This file contains the monitor information required by the MGAMON program.
It contains video timings for a variety of monitors and should cover most
monitors.
UPDBIOS.BAT Utility:
-------------------
IF YOU HAVE JUST RECEIVED A NEW BOARD, IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO
RUN THIS UTILITY.
This batch file is used to update the flash bios on your MGA
card to the latest revision at the time of release.
It is necessary to run this utility only if you receive this
software as part of an upgrade package.
Should you need to use this utility, follow the procedure below :
1) go to the C:\MGA\SETUP directory and simply type "UPDBIOS"
2) once the utility has finished, power-down your system
3) power-up your system and you are now ready to try your updated
bios
NOTE : This program may not work properly if invoked from a Windows
DOS window (neither windowed or full-screen). It is recommended
that this program be run directly from DOS.
FNT8X14.COM:
------------
The 8x14 font has been removed from the video bios. This was done, as per
VESA recommendations, in order to make room for VESA Bios features such as
VBE2.0 and VBE/DDC. Should the removal of this font cause problems with any
application you are running, it can be installed by running the FNT8X14.COM
TSR program. To do this, simply type c:\mga\setup\fnt8x14.
VBESETUP.EXE and VBETSR.COM Utilities:
-------------------------------------
The VBETSR.COM/VBESETUP.EXE utilities allow the VESA VBE modes supported
by our video bios to use the same video parameters as used by our drivers.
This is a two step process. First, you must run VBETSR.COM by going to
\MGA\SETUP and typing VBETSR. Second, from within the same sub-directory,
you must run VBESETUP.EXE by simply typing VBESETUP. This program will
load the video parameter information to be used by VBETSR.COM. These
programs can be run from within your autoexec.bat by simply adding the
following lines :
C:\MGA\SETUP\VBETSR
C:\MGA\SETUP\VBESETUP
NOTE that VBESETUP must be re-run every time you modify your monitor
configuration. In other words, every time you switch monitor or modify
the video timings in any way.
PCISPY.EXE Utility:
------------------
PCISPY is intended for usage in PCI systems where we suspect problems
arising from the way MGA devices are being mapped.
Usage of this utility is as follows and can be obtained by simply
going to C:\MGA\SETUP and typing PCISPY :
usage : pcispy [-l]
[-c]
[-r DeviceNumber Offset]
[-w DeviceNumber Offset Data]
[-d DeviceNumber Start_Offset End_Offset]
where
[-l] list PCI device information
[-c] automatic conflict resolution involving MGA
[-r] read byte from "Offset" (hexbyte) for "DeviceNumber"
[-w] write byte "Data" to "Offset" (hexbyte) for "DeviceNumber"
[-d] dump bytes from "Start_Offset" to "End_Offset" (hexbytes)
for "DeviceNumber"
**** Switches are mutually exclusive.
